Road Angel was formed in July 2000 by the unlikely duo of a professional racing driver and a Pharmaceuticals entrepreneur, and is now arguably the best known brand of GPS speed/safety camera detectors. Although not the first GPS detector, the original Road Angel, launched in 2002, gained mass market appeal thanks to endorsement by racing driver and TV presenter Tiff Needell. Road Angel have launched new products virtually every year, adding functionality like bigger/clearer displays, voice alerts, laser detection, specific alerts for different types of camera, and a battery powered version for true portability. The latest ‘Road Angel Professional Connected’ is the most sophisticated product of its type, adding a large colour screen, compass, remote control and automatic real-time updates. In 2006 Road Angel entered the Sat Nav market with an entry-level product using ‘Tele Atlas’ mapping. Today, the premium ‘Navigator 9000 Connected’ is aimed at the professional and is the only GSM/GPRS enabled Sat Nav, enabling real-time camera and mapping updates, as well as traffic and weather information.
