Nozomu Matsumoto started off producing speakers in 1937 and by 1961, his company took the name Pioneer Electronic Corp. Since then Pioneer has chalked a number of firsts for the in-car electronics market. They introduced the first component car stereo in 1975, the first car CD player (1985) and the first Car Sat Nav in 1990.
